RIFA will be closed from Dec. 17-Jan. 1. An exception to this will be the Soup Kitchen, which will stay open at the normal times.

Robinson Toyota has designated RIFA as the recipient of a $5,000 donation (with a matching donation from Toyota Corp.). This was a small part of what Robinson does to help out its community of Jackson. They not only donated money, but also worked in the soup kitchen several days. Employees from all levels came to work in the soup kitchen. After their service in the soup kitchen they went above and beyond by donating many of the needs the soup kitchen has.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus High School spent one day last week (12/9/11) serving the community. One group of about 30 students and teachers came to RIFA. The group split up and was able to cover several areas of need at RIFA. One group spent the day serving patrons in the soup kitchen. Another group worked preparing the bags for the Snack Backpack program. Two smaller groups worked in the Thrift Store cleaning, preparing bags, and testing electronics. When groups are able to come in and get these task done for the RIFA staff, it is a great help to us. We are able to better focus on helping those we need to help.

Gold’s Gym in Jackson recently held a 5k run to benefit RIFA. The race was held on Thanksgiving Day, it was a 5k. There were over 650 runners that came to participate. It is the largest race in Jackson currently and a chip-timed race as well. The check was presented to RIFA Monday (12/5) and was in the amount of $5,000! Steve Roten was the organizer of the race and owner of Gold’s Gym in Jackson.

Looking for a way to do something for the community? Looking for something for your business or office to do? Please consider doing a food drive for RIFA. This time of year RIFA gives out much food and is in need of more food donations. So, a food drive is of great help to RIFA and does not take much to organize.
All you need to do is fill out a Food Drive registration form and fax it in to RIFA, so that we can know who all is doing a drive.

Victory Honda of Jackson is currently having a coat and food collection drive to benefit RIFA. They are asking their staff and customers to drop off winter coats and food at Victory Honda. This is a great way to help out the community, but also there is some added incentive! Victory Honda has promised to honor 10% off any service with a donation either can goods or a coat!
So, stop by Victory Honda and bring your donation!
Several local restaurants donate food to RIFA every week. This food is one of the primary ways that RIFA feeds people in our area. Several individuals volunteer to pick up the food every week. They go and pick up the food at the restaurants. This is a huge help out to the RIFA staff and allows us to focus on other task that need to be done during the day.
Recently, we have had a spot open up on Tuesday that needs to be filled. This Tuesday morning pick up consist of four restaurants. This does not take up much time, an hour and a half at the most. So, if you are looking for a good way to get involved and do not have a lot of time, consider this!
