Tom had been visiting the soup kitchen for a long time. He would come in and eat and leave and not much was known about him. One day our helpful staff in the kitchen started talking to him and found out that this veteran was living on the streets. Already being a quite man the Parkinson that had started effecting his memory and causing him to shake made him even less sociable. But what James our soup kitchen assistant found out is that Tom is an exceptionally nice guy who had fallen on hard times. Tom had been staying at a local mission house but was being mistreated to the point that he felt he would be better off on the streets. So he slept on a park bench and ate lunch in the Soup Kitchen. As James got to know Tom he found that he didn’t have any family near by and his stuff kept getting stolen on the street. After talking to Tom, James worked on starting his disability and has gotten him started on some Parkinson medication that has helped his shaking a lot. But the biggest blessing came in they was of James finding a spot for Tom at Turning Point a local halfway house. Tom has been more sociable now and is off the streets. Praise be to God for this blessing!
Lives Changed: Mr. Robert
23 11 2010Mr. Robert has been a soup kitchen patron for as long as James the Soup Kitchen Assistant who also does Case Management, can remember. Mr. Robert frequents the Soup Kitchen 5-6 times a week and is a consistent Chapel attendee. This attendance is quite a feat because the last ten years Mr. Robert has been disabled. Dan Ward, the Soup Kitchen Manager has described it as ‘our step is like 10 of his’. This makes getting around very difficult for Mr. Robert. If anyone needed a power chair it was Mr. Robert. James took initiative and diligently worked to get Mr. Robert through all of the Doctors appointments and God has blessed his works and now Mr. Robert is the proud owner of a power chair. This will help him get around safely and significantly improve his quality of life! Praise God!
